As all of you know, I’m obsessed with my Boston Leela. Something so tiny is FULL of energy and love and it pains me to even think about the pain she’s experiencing right now and how she is unable to express her distress.
On a routine visit to the vet I found out both her knees have a condition called Patellar Luxation. Her knee cap slips out of the joint causing a painful popping sensation and she is forced to favour the other leg, which also has the same problem. I called several pet insurance companies inquiring about this medical problem and they don’t cover it since it’s a common problem in small dogs, especially Boston Terriers. My vet quoted me $1500 to have a surgeon come in from Milton, ON to perform the surgery and claimed that the surgeon would perform the surgery on both knees for a combined cost of $1700. As a student who is already in debt from my post-secondary education I’m left with the decision to post-pone the surgery until I can find the funds to pay for Leela’s surgery. This could develop the Patellar Luxation into full blown arthritis and leave Leela unable to walk later in life and that thought alone is devastating.
I set up this ChipIn page in hopes of my friends, family and dog lovers/enthusiasts to “chip in” whatever they can to help me accelerate raising the funds for Leela.
